North Shore Mindfulness was started by an Order of Interbeing (OI) member in the late 1990s. The Sangha has always been led by volunteers, following the practices of the Zen Buddhist teacher, Thich Nhat Hanh.  The Sangha initially practiced at a North Vancouver library and eventually moved to North Shore Neighbourhood House in 2009.

When Thich Nhat Hanh visited Vancouver in 2011, a number of people who had attended his retreat were inspired to come together and continue their practice with the North Shore Mindfulness Sangha.  In 2012 we found our current location at St. Stephen’s Church with Janice and Bob Walker leading the Care Taking committee.  They are both Ordained OI members who had attended retreats with Thich Nhat Hahn in Plum Village and around the world.

After the Walkers moved to Victoria, BC in September 2017, a new Care Taking committee was formed.  With Thich Nhat Hanh’s teachings as our guide, we continue to practice with enthusiasm today and into the future.
